Tips + Tricks // Rose Petal Enzyme Masque

“I have 3 ways that I love to use this product – as a classic mask, a morning cleanse or as an overnight mask.”

– Amber Woods, Pink Light Botanicals founder

EXPERT TIPS FROM THE FOUNDER:

  • As your weekly indulgent mask – apply a medium layer to clean, dry skin, allow to work for 10-15 minutes and remove with a warm washcloth. Massage it in with fingers while you wait!
  • As a refreshing morning cleanser – massage it onto skin before hopping into the shower and let the steam do its thing. Remove with a washcloth towards end of shower. (Note: works well as a morning cleanse only if you have cleansed your skin the night before. This mask is not meant to remove makeup, dirt, etc, but offers a gentle enzymatic cleanse to rinse and wake up skin).
  • As a cellular renewing overnight mask – after cleansing and toning, apply a very thin layer and go to bed. In the morning, rinse skin with a warm washcloth and proceed with your morning routine.

Q + A with Amber Woods, Founder of Pink Light Botanicals

When/how do you love to use the product?
I have three ways that I love to use this product, and I generally reach for it when my skin is feeling a little textured or dull. It’s gentle enough to use up to 3x/week, and I recommend using it at least 1x/week. You can use clean fingers, but using a clean spoon or spatula will keep bacteria out of your jar. Apply with hands or place desired amount into a bowl and apply with a fan brush. (*Note: Sometimes the mask can slightly change consistency with temperature. If the mask is a bit stiff, no problem, simply stir well with a clean utensil or remove a chunk and warm between your palms and apply.) The first and most common way I like to use it is as a classic mask any time of day or evening. I cleanse and apply a medium layer to clean, dry skin, allow to work for 10-15 minutes and remove with a warm washcloth. Feel free to massage it in with fingers while you wait too! Secondly, I will sometimes use it as a morning cleanse. I massage it onto my skin before hopping into the shower and let the steam do its thing and remove it with a washcloth towards end of shower. (Note: works well as a morning cleanse only if you have cleansed your skin the night before. This mask is not meant to remove makeup, dirt, etc, but offers a gentle enzymatic cleanse to rinse and wake up skin). Thirdly, it can be used as an overnight mask. In this case, after cleansing and toning, I’ll apply a very thin layer and go to bed. In the morning, I’ll rinse my skin with a warm washcloth and proceed with my morning routine. I also absolutely love to follow this mask with a gentle scrub with our Coconut Pearl Powder or to mix equal parts of the two together before applying (do not use this mix for overnight mask though!) In all cases, I recommend toning, seruming, and moisturizing immediately after removing for best results.

What inspired the product/ingredients?
This mask was born when I was frustrated with exfoliants being too harsh. I wanted to create something with a light touch to create the softness and gentleness of a rose petal.

How long has it been part of the line?
This product launched in 2017.

Can you give us some insight on the ingredient formulation process?
This exfoliant breaks down dead skin cells with enzymes, Willow Bark, and Hibiscus, but is not irritating, drying, or stripping and won’t disturb your acid mantle. It contains no direct essential oils, as to eliminate any potential irritants and keep it very gentle, and simply has the soft scent of rosewater. It is also infused with whole Chamomile and Calendula flowers to provide healing properties while exfoliating. It took many iterations to find the right formula that was effective yet still very gentle.

What is the star ingredient in the product and why?
Since this product is meant to exfoliate, some of the star ingredients are the exfoliators, Pomegranate Enzyme and Willow Bark Extract. I love these both because they are gentle at breaking down dead skin and sebum to reveal brighter skin and create better product absorption.
