Q + A with Karmen Novak, Founder of Flower and Spice

When/how do you love to use the product?
I use it once or twice a week. In the summer when I use more sunscreen, I tend to exfoliate more but not more than every 3-4 days.

I put a generous amount of product on dry skin (so it can easily sink into the skin and AHA fruit acids can start doing their job of deep exfoliation) and then gently massage it for a minute or two to increase circulation and remove the top part of dead skin cells. I then leave it on for another minute and then rinse with warm water. I apply Midnight Beauty serum afterwards.

What inspired the product/ingredients?
The main ingredients in the formula are meant to inspire relaxation (lavender and fennel) while also detoxify, bring anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties. Fennel is known to strengthen the skin barrier to prevent transepidermal water loss.

Ingredients like Shea butter, jojoba and glycerin moisturize the skin while AHA fruit acids (from blueberries, bitter orange, lemon and sugar maple) together with very gentle bamboo powder, efficiently remove dead skin and deeply clean your pores.

How long has it been part of the line?
Instant Glow has been part of Flower and Spice from the beginning (since 1 year ago), together with Midnight Beauty oil serum and Soothe and Repair moisturizer.

Can you give us some insight on the ingredient formulation process?
I created an exfoliator because I could never find one that would fit me just right. When I was formulating this product I formulated it as a face cream/lotion, so it has all the qualities of an indulgent moisturizer that protects your skin, while also gently exfoliating dead skin cells.

What is the star ingredient in the product and why?
There are so many powerful ingredients in this product that it’s hard to pick just one. The most active is AHA fruit acids mix, that deeply exfoliates your skin.
