Tips + Tricks // Wabi-Sabi Botanicals The GIVER Illuminative Ritual Cleanser & Makeup Dissolver

“You’ll be left with a clean, beautifully moisturized finish – no dryness, no stripping.”

– Elysse Crabtree, Wabi-Sabi Botanicals founder

EXPERT TIPS FROM THE FOUNDER:

  • Use as a daily cleanser to dissolve makeup and impurities, massage onto dry skin and remove with a warm, wet wash cloth.
  • Apply as a face moisturizer after cleansing to soothe inflammation, improve skin tone and texture and actively help prevent premature aging.
  • Apply head-to-toe to tone skin and fight cellulite. The concentrated caffeine in Roasted Coffee Oil helps to reduce water retention.
  • As a nourishing and strengthening hair oil treatment, apply a couple of pumps to scalp and hair, leave in for 30 minutes before washing with shampoo. Hair will be left feeling soft and nourished without feeling weighed down.

Q + A with Elysse Crabtree, Founder of Wabi-Sabi Botanicals

When/how do you love to use the product?
You can use The Giver as a first cleanse or as an only cleanse! Massage The Giver in to dry skin to dissolve makeup, and use a warm, wet cloth to wipe away. You’ll be left with a clean, beautifully moisturized finish – no dryness, no stripping.

Because The Giver is made entirely of pure, unrefined plant oils, you can also use it as a moisturizer at the end of your skincare ritual. Sapote, Hibiscus, and Moringa Oils are packed with vitamins and nutrients that soothe inflammation, improve skin tone and texture, and actively prevent premature aging, while Roasted Coffee and Cacao infuse skin with powerful antioxidants. Massage one pump (or less if you prefer a more matte finish) of The Giver into skin as the final step in your evening ritual and let it works its magic. Sometimes I like to go over it with one of our Crystal Ritual Facial Rollers as well as it provides the perfect velvety canvas and even more benefits.

You can also use The Giver head-to-toe, especially applied to areas where you may have cellulite as the concentrated caffeine in Roasted Coffee Oil reduces water retention and helps to break down ‘fat stores’, thereby reducing the appearance of cellulite over time!

What inspired the product/ingredients?
I’m usually inspired by ingredients first and then create a formula around an ingredient – in this case, I fell in love with Sapote oil. It’s similar to coconut oil in that it turns to a soft butter in colder temperatures, it has this milky, creamy texture, and smells like sweet, cherry almond marzipan – I just love it and was inspired to create an indulgent, almost dessert-like product around it. And so The Giver was born.

How long has it been part of the line?
It just launched in November of 2018.

Can you give us some insight on the ingredient formulation process?
I choose ingredients based on sourcing, first and foremost – does this ingredient meet Wabi-Sabi Botanicals standards for ingredient sourcing, sustainability, etc? This really narrows down what ingredients I’m willing to work with. Once an ingredient has been vetted, I befriend it – I get to know its texture, how it plays with other ingredients, its active components and skin benefits. The formulas almost make themselves, I’m just a messenger of sorts.

What is the star ingredient in the product and why?
Every ingredient is a star. That’s why I keep the formulas simple and really allow the ingredients to shine without ‘filler’ ingredients or added fragrance. It would be doing the ingredients a disservice to manipulate or hide them – they’re just magical all on their own.
