Q + A with Celestyna Brozek, Founder of moss/AMBAR

When/how do you love to use the product?
I am a tired mom and I love how easy this cleanser is – I use it whenever I’m too tired to do a proper cleanse (ie anything involving rinsing) which is basically every evening. You can use this to remove eye makeup, just dab it, instead of dragging. For particularly stubborn eye makeup, use an oil make-up remover first, and then MCE. This is a great product to take traveling or to the gym too!

What inspired the product/ingredients?
I created the AMBAR line when I was pregnant with my little boy. That was a tough pregnancy for me, I was very tired and sick. My skin went a little haywire with all the hormonal upheaval pregnancy brings. I was craving something super easy and simple. Washing my face was literally feeling too difficult so I designed a cleanser that you didn’t need to rinse off. Most micellar waters I tried did leave a little residue so I tried to create one that truly felt residue free and fresh.

How long has it been part of the line?
This has been part of the AMBAR line since the inception of AMBAR, which was the summer of 2017.

Can you give us some insight on the ingredient formulation process?
One of the things that really elevates this micellar water is the high percentage of rose hydrosol it contains – this really gives it the properties of a mist or a toner. It also has Viola extract, which helps to distribute hydration to drier areas of the skin, and Yucca extract, for its purifying and conditioning properties.

We were really careful to only use the absolute smallest amount possible of surfactants and chose a surfactant derived from apple amino acids that is incredibly gentle. Another thing that makes this a really unique micellar water is the solvent we used. Many micellar waters do not contain solvents, but in our case we chose one that really helps boost the debris-lifting properties of the micellar water, while adding conditioning benefits. The pink color comes from Gromwell root, which is anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial.

What is the star ingredient in the product and why?
I’m particularly fond of the rose hydrosol we sourced – it has a fresh, apple-like note that is unique and beautiful.
