Founder 5 with Emily of Ursa Major

Every product Ursa Major launches must satisfy three simple criteria: Is it effective? Is it healthy? Is it sublime? If so, they’ll go to market with it. If not, they’ll go back into the lab and re-work it ’til it’s perfect.’ Ursa Major was created to provide a healthy and highly effective skin care solution that’s also a pleasure to use. Their advanced formulations artfully blend nature’s most effective ingredients to provide exceptional performance and a truly incredible experience.

We had the chance to pick co founder Emily’s brain in a lightening round about our 5 favorite topics, we hope you enjoy!

Once you learn about the unhealthy ingredients, the shortcuts, and the mistruths in the “mainstream” beauty world, you just cannot continue to use those products or support the companies who make them. You feel lied to and you feel pretty angry – at least I did. It pushed me over the edge and I (with my partner Oliver) wanted to do something about it… we wanted to change this dynamic and offer a healthy, trustworthy alternative!

Definitely the latter… we work A LOT and just had a baby, so I take those little indulgences whenever I can get them!
While I appreciate a good face mask (and definitely squeeze those into my routine from time to time), I find that my morning and evening rituals feel like little daily indulgences. In many ways that is what Ursa Major is all about – the simple pleasure of using your favorite product (experiencing the scents, the textures, etc) and the confidence that comes with knowing you are taking good care of yourself.

This is a hard question!!   I think it would have to be our Golden Hour Recovery Cream.  I describe this cream as a medicine cabinet hero – it is a beautiful hydrator and anti-ager, but it also heals everything; dry skin, rashes, itchy skin, sunburns, etc. – I even put it on my baby’s cheeks!  It basically does it all, and feels super luxurious.

I feel most beautiful when I have spent time outside in nature…. running, hiking, camping, snowshoeing…. It doesn’t matter the season – it’s that feeling of fresh air in your lungs and pink cheeks from your efforts!  I feel most alive, happy and confident when I am hanging out with my crew after some time in the great outdoors.

Be patient.  Oliver and I are results-oriented and it’s very easy to get impatient when you are building a brand, perfecting a new product and trying to find sustainable ways to grow your business.  It’s a long road, and there are no shortcuts.  We have to remind ourselves that good things take time and most beautiful things were not built overnight.
