When I made the tough decision to close The Clean Beauty Box last month so many of you have reached out about brands you’ve discovered through our box that have now become permanent fixtures in your daily routines. After reading your farewell messages and notes I really feel the impact of what we’ve created and the void we are leaving.
Many of you asked if we had any recommendations for other clean beauty subscriptions that are comparable to what we offered. There are few boxes that match what we set out to deliver to you, that share our standards for ingredients, deliver exceptional curations and place their customers as top priority. That being said, I know exactly which box I’ll be subscribing to when my current stash of samples runs out (but probably before then if I’m being honest). That box is Beauty Heroes.
I had the pleasure of meeting Beauty Heroes founder Jeannie Jarnot at an indie beauty event about 4 years ago. She was warm, authentic and extremely knowledgeable. When I met her she immediately wanted to share one of their current boxes with me, just because “the products were SO good” (and they were). Jeannie introduced me to other brand founders and we talked about supporting each other’s boxes in this growing space. She runs her business with an impressive mindset of collaboration, not competition. I could immediately see why she attracts and builds lasting relationships with the most coveted brands in clean beauty.
Though we’ve built our brands from our own unique perspectives and backgrounds we share a similar mentality when it comes to the heart of what we do. I wanted to take the time to introduce you to this amazing leader in the clean beauty space and I had the pleasure of interviewing her recently. I hope you enjoy!
Tell me a little bit about your background and how you made the decision to start Beauty Heroes. What was the moment you decided to go for it?
I was a hospitality major and spent most of my career as a Spa Director for luxury spas. I managed anywhere from 20 to 70 spa therapists at a time during my career, developing programming for treatments for the skin, body, fitness, mindfulness as well as curating the retail offering. I learned a lot about ingredients during my years as a Spa Director and was frustrated at how hard it was to find truly healthy products. As I started to discover brands that I felt more deeply connected to as a Spa Director, I envisioned a service that would introduce beauty to people, like me, who want healthy beauty delivered in a sophisticated, educational format. I envisioned what I think of as the Beauty Heroes service, as opposed to a subscription box.
As I turned 38 (9 years ago), I started to feel myself getting older and thought that if I never tried bringing my idea to life, I might always regret it. I decided to go for it. I never envisioned Beauty Heroes to become all that it is today, with over 100 brands and vision for Blue Beauty and a brick and mortar store. I had a small idea, that snowballed.
I think we’re all dying to know, what’s your personal hero product…or 3…or top 10? 🙂
Hah! I asked you the same question, and now you are getting me back for it. I will first say that each of the products we’ve featured as a Hero product have been or are a Hero product for me. Meaning, they really bring a lot of value to my life – either my skin, my body, my senses, my routine etc. Each month we feature a product I am so passionate about. But, to answer your questions, I’ll share a few that I think are very universal and best in class.
First, this month’s LILFOX Hero product, Marshmallow Poof is truly exceptional. I don’t want to ever be without this peptide and antioxidant packed luscious cream. There’s simply nothing like it, and I think it will be a Hero product for many people for years to come.
I reference Honua Skincare’s Aloha Youth Serum every time I get asked this question because if I had to have only one product to wear every day, day and night and that was all I could have, this would probably be it. It’s just the most well-rounded Hero product that’s made by one of my favorite people, Founder Kapua Browning.
Laurel’s Sun Serum has been my long-time favorite Laurel product, and I’m not alone. It’s our top-seller at Beauty Heroes. Laurel reminds me again and again, that whole plants have us covered.
Mukti’s Age Defiance Eye Serum, which we featured as a Hero product a few months, ago is just the best. I love the ingredients and the application for AM and PM, with 5 smart peptides specifically for the eye area.
Blüh Alchemy’s Active Relief Body Serum is my current Hero body oil. The ingredients are incredible. Then there’s the scent – it’s the most divine scent ever. And then, there’s the price point. Even though $68 is not inexpensive, it’s a great value for the quality of this oil. I just want to bathe in it, literally.
And, my Hero product for hair is the new AYUNA Shampoo Bar. The formula works really well for my long, colored hair. And, I just love that it’s a luxurious less/zero waste product. It’s a total win-win in my book.
What wellness/skincare trend or innovation are you most excited about?
I am definitely most excited about products that help us live lighter on the planet, but still deliver an amazing experience. I love zero waste, or less waste products that don’t require a sacrifice in their delivery. I hope the trend towards lighter packaging, healthy beauty and personal care products continues. I am very optimistic that it will.
What does self care look like for you? An indulgent weekly event or finding moments whenever you can get them?
It looks like morning meditation, some strenuous exercise, a book, a bath and a face mask. The first two are the most important.

I’m with my son Charles doing absolutely nothing of consequence. I just love being with him.
You have an impressive resume within the skincare industry… What’s the number one skin care tip you picked up along the way?
This will probably not come as a surprise, but my tip is to find a good esthetician, and get regular facials. My ideal is getting a facial every 5 weeks. Having suffered for years from cystic acne, if I hadn’t had regular facials, my scarring and hyperpigmentation would be so much worse. I feel so grateful for my esthetician.
There are SO MANY products available, how do you choose the special few that make it into the box?
We only select 12 Hero products each year – so the vetting process is really involved. There’s no formula, I test, talk about, obsess over each selection and ultimately choose products that make an impact on me, and that I feel are too good not to share. That was the initial inspiration for Beauty Heroes. I felt so lucky to have the products I was discovering in my life, that I felt it was selfish not to tell others about them. That same sentiment is still how I think of each discovery. The product or products need to be so good, I want the world to know about them.
What’s on the horizon for Beauty Heroes?
The thing I am most interested in is our Blue Beauty initiatives. We are working on ways we can have our company operate with a lesser impact on the environment and find ways we can make a positive impact on the planet while continuing to champion brands that are on that same path.
