Using food to boost your glow is now a “thing”.
At this point we’re all aware that the food we eat has an impact on our skin and overall appearance. Remember when Giselle and Tom’s chef shared their macrobiotic diet with the world? It may have sounded strict, but have you seen her flawless skin?
We’re not expecting anyone to hire a personal chef and cut out all fried foods and coffee (because life), but incorporating certain foods can have a major impact on the appearance and texture of your skin.
Here are our 9 favorite skin healthy foods.
1. Avocados
An avo a day can go along way with keeping the wrinkles at bay. Avocados are jam-packed with essential fatty acids to keep your skin hydrated and plump, Vitamin E for skin repair, Vitamin C to reduce inflammation and brighten your skin as well as a class of antioxidants called carotenoids. Antioxidants protect the skin against free radicals and can help reduce signs of aging.
2. Flax Seeds
Has your skin lost its sparkle? Try adding a tablespoon or 2 of flaxseeds to your oatmeal or smoothie every day and bring back that glow! Flax seeds are abundant in omega 3 essential fatty acids, which can help keep your skin hydrated and smooth.
3. Beets
Their vibrant color is due to powerful antioxidants, which are essential to help keep your skin glowing. Beet juice helps to purify the blood and the liver to eliminate toxins from the body which helps keep skin clear. Try adding carrot or pineapple juice to sweeten it up!
4. Lemons
If there was one thing we would recommend you do to gently detoxify your liver on a daily basis it would be to start every morning with warm water and the juice of half a lemon. Lemons are rich in Vitamin C, which helps to promote collagen production, helping to keep the skin plump and youthful.
5. Green Tea
If, like millions of others, you can’t go a day without your cup of green tea then we have good news for you! Not only is green tea one of the most powerful anti-cancer beverages due to their high levels of antioxidants, these same antioxidants provide your skin with some incredible benefits from hydrating, preventing fine lines and wrinkles and making your skin glow!
6. Almonds
Don’t underestimate the humble almond. The perfect afternoon snack, almonds are also one of the best sources of Vitamin E. This powerful antioxidant is essential for skin repair and even helps to protect your skin against the damaging effects of UV rays.
7. Sweet Potatoes
Their orange flesh is due to high levels of beta carotene, which is converted into Vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A helps to hydrate the skin from the inside out. It also helps to prevent and slow the breakdown of collagen and elastin. These are two very important structural proteins, which keep your skin firm, taut and plump.
8. Dark, Leafy Greens
No healthy diet is complete without the addition of dark, leafy greens on a daily basis. Leafy greens are one of the richest sources of powerful nutrients, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, including iron, potassium, magnesium, Vitamins C, B and E just to name a few. Eating dark leafy greens on a daily basis can be the difference between dull and dry skin and smooth and glowing. It can be hard to eat as many greens as you need so try getting them in through juicing or by adding a few handfuls to a fruity smoothie. Your smoothie may turn bright green, but you won’t even taste it.
9. Pumpkin Seeds
The next time you scoop seeds out of your pumpkin before baking it, be mindful and save the seeds! Yep, roasted pumpkin seeds are not only delicious, they are a treat for your skin too! Rich in Omega 6 and Zinc, pumpkin seeds promote rejuvenation and healing in your skin, helping to keep it healthy and clear.
